Zdecydowałem się zagłosować przeciwko rezolucji dotyczącej przyszłości europejskiej obronności. Mój sprzeciw wynika z fundamentalnych zastrzeżeń co do kierunku, w którym dokument ten próbuje przesunąć politykę bezpieczeństwa i obrony Unii Europejskiej. Po pierwsze, postulowane odejście od zasady jednomyślności w decyzjach dotyczących wspólnej polityki bezpieczeństwa i obrony to poważne zagrożenie dla suwerenności państw członkowskich. W obliczu braku wspólnej percepcji zagrożeń, szczególnie między Europą Środkowo-Wschodnią a Europą Zachodnią, każde państwo członkowskie musi mieć możliwość samodzielnego decydowania o swojej polityce obronnej. Po drugie, dokument promuje ideę stworzenia Europejskiej Unii Obrony. Zamiast pogłębiać transatlantycką współpracę i wzmacniać zdolności odstraszania, forsuje się tworzenie równoległych struktur poza Sojuszem Północnoatlantyckim, co może prowadzić do jego marginalizacji – na czym zależy jedynie naszym przeciwnikom. Nie mogę poprzeć również postulatu tzw. preferencji europejskiej, który w obecnej sytuacji geopolitycznej i technologicznej jest po prostu nierealny. Potrzebujemy szybkiego uzupełniania zasobów i często jesteśmy zależni od amerykańskich technologii i produkcji. Z tych powodów głosowałem przeciwko rezolucji. Bezpieczeństwo Europy musi być budowane na silnych państwach członkowskich, odpowiedzialnej współpracy w ramach NATO oraz poszanowaniu zasady jednomyślności.
